Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Longer than that. The SOHC engines have no signifcantly common failure points. I'm at 80k on my '01, and it's had no issues whatsoever.

I've had to RS's. First one I drove to 45k miles with only one problem. Something got squeaky after I pully my friends Jeep Grand Cherroke out of the mud. I kind of had some fun too while I was out there My second RS has over 80k and runs really solid still. Previous owner only replaced wheel bearings.

cheers

make sure head gaskets were done (sohcs leak externally, from the bottom unlike DOHCS leak internally) also make sure you start it when its cold, make sure it doesnt have a ton of piston slap...owtherwise its good to go...98K is nothing on a maintained suby engine

No need to "make sure they're done." As long as the motor had the original coolant in it or the additive during later flushes, it's fine. If it's not losing coolant you don't have an issue.

Unhappy

you are right ban suvs...but working at a subaru dealer, we are swamped with sohc head gasket jobs, subaru refuses to use the updated steel DOHC head gasket, so they keep blowing...but if they arent leaking, dont worry about it
