Wastegate porting needed?

Ok, yes I know all about the boost creep issues and so on, and I am planning to get a downpipe on my 06 TR soon and I would like to know a couple things:

I am getting a cobb AP; will the AP prevent boost creep? Is a different engine map intelligent enough to even pevent it? lol

If not, I am obviously going to want to get my wastegate ported so...

Does anyone know a reliable shop that would port my wastegate (and not overport it!) in the bay area?

Would a place like gruppe-s do it?

Thanks guys!

p.s. in case you still don't understand the point after all that; don't even consider needing to port until after you've gotten an AP tuned-because the problem will likely have disappeared by then.

the AP, even custom tuned only masks a mechanical problem(boost creep)....masking it by not being as aggressive.

a proper port will rid yourself of creep & tied in with the custom tune you will allow a more aggressive tune for better response & more power due to no creeping.

F the stock turbo! If you are going to port the wastegate you might as well replace it with a 20g or FP green

A 50-100$ port is much easier on my wallet than a new turbo, IC, and fuel system for the time being .

p.p.s. Obviously, the point here has not been understood. Hence:

This problem has only been known to exist on cars using the VF39 turbo (i.e. STIs). A fellow member of EBAIC that also has an 06 TR, and is running headers, a catless downpipe, and catback has absolutely NO problems with boost creep. I doubt that if it were a problem that plagued 06 WRXs, that he specifically would be immune to it. Which leads me to believe that the prior statement made above is true.

Have you installed your downpipe yet? If not, then how do you know that you even have a problem to begin with? A solution that costs $0 is much cheaper than one that costs $50-100 (A 50-100$...).

Yes, which is why it is often recommended that you put this onto your car before you touch the exhaust.

And lastly, if you had done more reading, you would realize that porting is not the panacea that some make it out to be. Again, if you had asked one of your fellow EBAIC members, maybe your fears (in this case, non-existent) would've been allayed. Anyhow, I need to get back to work, lol.

Hehe someone is being very aggresive over this. First of all, if I seem to recall properly, I have heard of 06's hitting this issue.

Also, to correct you, as someone else also stated, assuming I did have the issue, an AP would NOT be the propper solution, not being able to push enough air is not being able to push enough air, plain and simple. A port in that case would be the better solution of the two.

I agree with you that many 06's have been running perfectly fine, but I was just trying to be proactive about the whole thing. And I did not read those links you posted yet because I am dead tired, just got home from the lemans karting meet just not to long ago, and I came home and just crashed :P.

--edit--

Thanks for those links, a few good valid points were brought up.

Yeah, but pwn said " I know all about the boost creep issues and so on" and testes1010 said it's a "fact," so you and I must be wrong, in spite of our personal experiences.

:walks away with head down:
I think I need to give my turbo a pep talk so it will creep on me.
