Timed water sprayer

I recently went to a local store that sold a pivot water sprayer controller that works off of your rpm's. Unfortunately the price for this little controller the size of a turbo timer was like 200 bucks. I was curious if anyone has thought of tapping off of the built in shift light on the sti so when the light indicator goes off it would send a signal to a relay amplifying a bit and then in turn trip the water sprayer button to spray at a predetermined rpm (i.e. whatever you set the shift light at)
any thoughts?????? anyone????

hey jess, did you buy it?? i hope not, cuz i have a summit racing catalog that has em for like 100 bucks before shipping...
i def. not no scientist but i think it would be a little more beneficial to have it sprayed prior to high rpms- unless you are referring for it to prep for the next shift...

i have a weird theory(which really has no merit) but i'd like to save the ampage(sp.? right term?) just for the engine and nothing else <--not very scientific- and i know the controller probably won't draw anything anyway...

Use an adjustable pressure switch, that way, the I/C gets sprayed when needed under boost.
You'll need the switch, a relay, and a diode to prevent back feeding into the stock switch.

Just a question, because I dont really know...

I was under the assumption that automatic water spray came standard on the STi. I have a 98 and I can hit the I/C spray manually or push the auto button which gives the I/C a shot when you are peaking your boost. Can anybody clarify? Do the USDM STi's come with water spray stock?

They do, but there manual, we have to push ours and they only spray for a small increment of time. I would however like to have something that would automatically spray the I/C when the temps reach a certain degree which would cause massive heatsoak and effect performace drasticaly

SPO sells a kit that that you splice into the existing harness that sprays under boost...it's about $150.

As I'm running water alcohol injection, I have an adjustable pressure switch that will be used to trigger the stock I/C sprayer as well.

Distilled water will offer the best/most cooling effect on the I/C.
If you live in a cold area of the world, you might want to add a little alcohol to the tank to prevent freezing.
But performance will suffer.

they sell the JDM Auto I/C switch... replaces the USDM one. Cost's 40 bucks and is well worth it. (its like a on/off switch.
