STi normal EGTs?

All,

I just got done a ECUTek reflash and was on the highway doing a WOT run when after going almost completely through 5 gears I glanced over at my EGT gauge and notice the EGT registering a shade under 1800. Is this somewhat normal considering I was doing WOT through 5 gears? Normally with shorter bursts of acceleration, I see 1550-1650.

Thanks!

Jason

IIRC, I think I have read that the car is fine to aboult 1900 especaly in short runs. I wouldn't keep the temps that high for a long time though. With the tune your fuel curve could be a little lean but not in the danger zone, I dont think =P

Jason,

Here's what I see in my STi:

Normal freeway cruise (80mph): 800C = 1472F
WOT acceleration on the freeway (6th gear): 880C-900C = 1616F-1652F

I don't think I've ever seen it get above 925C (1697F).

My EGT gauge is a GReddy and the probe is located in the exhaust manifold right next to the O2 sensor.

Thanks for the responses guys!

I have a Defi EGT which goes to 2000F. I actually forgot where Nate told me where he installed the probe. I think it's in the manifold near cylinder#3.

Taking a closer look at the gauge markings, I think I was around 1750. It was hard to take a close look while going WOT all the way through 120+. I only took a quick glance then backed off...

Thanks!

Jason

The Cusco header lowers EGTs to recockulous levels. I've heard 800 being the high but I'd have to see it to believe it. Either way, being made by Cusco I suspect that it would give excellent results.

It actually just lowers the EGTs in and after the header- not in the cylinder itself. Well, not much, the reduced backpressure helps a bit.

If I remember my thermodynamics class correctly, you want the cylinder temps to be high and the intake and exhaust temps to be low...the bigger the difference between inside and outside the engine, the more power per stroke (theory based on Carnot heat cycles and the thermodynamics of a 4 stroke engine).
