Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

OEM STi Exhaust on "normal" WRX...any advantages?

Does the OEM cat-back exhaust from a 2004 or 2005 WRX Sti have any advantages over the exhaust system from a regular WRX? I notice that they go pretty cheap used, and wanted to know if it would be a worthwhile purchase for my '03 wagon.

If the only advantage is a shiny tip that says "STi" on it, I wouldn't be interested. But if it makes more power, then it might be an interesting option. Any help would be appreciated.

How about the JDM downpipe and midpipe? Do they flow any better than the USDM versions? Will the JDM downpipe and midpipe bolt to the USDM axleback? Or is the whole exhaust different? And why did they make it different?

I've been searching around the different forums but haven't found any answers to these questions...

Thanks in advance.

Rob

(BTW, I'm not looking for an aftermarket exhaust...but am looking to keep the car quiet and legal and improve flow a little here and there. I have a Bosal uppipe so far and am contemplating other options)

the STI hardware won't give you much gain, if you want to stay inconspicuous look into a stealthback.

method1: It's a bit lighter weight, sounds a wee bit deeper, and looks prettier. TIA

DomitzoLK: JDM d/p is a different shape than USDM d/p's. Performance is pretty much the same, so most people here that get the JDM d/p get it because they want to attach a JDM catback. In other words, JDM catbacks won't hitch up to USDM d/p's.
