power loss?

As i pull out of my garage ( in reverse) and onto the street, i have to turn the wheel hard over. As soon as the wheel wont turn anymore there is a sudden loss of power of some vibration. Is this normal for an AWD car?

Just break it in and then if it keeps doing that, take it back.

Sounds like the power steering is causing some stress on the motor when you crank it over. I thought though once you fully move it over it would have a bypass to prevent that kind of power drain.

Just so you know, there is some reference in the owner's manual about not keeping the wheel at maximum for longer than two seconds (I think) as it pinches the steering coolant system, and could cause the unit to fail. Not sure if it's related to your problem. I would say monitor it, it might go away as your car works out its fresh from the factory legs.

^^ wow, talk about poor design (shaking head)... they fail to mention that during their whole "form with function" gig through the brochure

The power loss and shudder you are feeling has to do with the differentials. I have felt the same thing and it is normal. Basically, the farther you turn to the left or right the more the differential has to do to keep the outside wheel rolling slightly faster than the inside wheel. At the extreme limits (all the way left or all the way right) going up or down hill with power... the diff cant keep up and sort of skips.

It is normal - if you want to know the technical details talk to a good suby mecanic. Thats about all I know about it.

but i dont think subaru cars' differential moves from left to right, only front to rear. and keeping the wheel in a fully turned position is not recommended for any type of vehicle, it stresses the power streering pump. well at least that is what we were taught driving trucks, of course a subaru may be able to handle this stress. but i still don't do it. just my .02
