its really a matter of opinion. everyone has their own theory, some has change theirs to synthetic at 1200 miles, then at 3400 miles, and so on. but i changed mines to synthetic at 2200 miles.

You should be able to change it no problem. Some use some kind of product (can't remember the name) to flush the system before putting the new synthetic in. You can always do that to give you some peace of mind.

Synthetic should be fine ..... hell synthetic is actually better than regular for most high performance engines. I am surprised you didn't switch sooner. I been running only synthetic on my WRX after its break in period (3000 miles)

You can search google to see what's out there in terms of motor flushing products. I did a quick search and saw that Amsoil has something and there's also something called Gunk Motor Flush. I suppose you could just let the old oil drain without using anything to flush the motor and just put in synthetic oil in. I wouldn't think that much or if any harm would come to your engine.

I've read that you can put some kerosene or diesel fuel through to clean all the old oil out but it seems like its unnecessary.

you can change to synthetic whenever you want, modern syn's contain seal swellers which mean theres going to be no consequence if you change at 1000 miles or 100000

There's no problem mixing. They sell oils that are mixed on purpose!

I've been using Amsoil for the past 2000km, and so far I've been really please with the results. I used Castrol Syntec 5w50 at first but the car seems to run smoother with Amsoil. I used a 5w30 grade but only cause its still cold right now.

I used to run Amsoil as well as Redline in my 00 A4 1.8t and I've had good results with both. I don't think you'd be disappointed with Amsoil though.

Go with Redline 10W40 full-synthetic.

I did it on my old '02 WRX, and will put it in my new STi when I hit 6k miles.

Engine spun more freely, ran great, no excessive consumption.

I've had nothing but luck with Redline oil & fluids in all my other cars, and I don't trust Mobile 1, Amsoil, Royal Purple, or anything else.
