95db or bust !!

Hey.. breaking in the STI is going great <<< @ 600mi Im lookikng into the AP & turboback exhaust as my first mods. Im still gonna wait until about 1500 miles... Im new to Sub's and Im the only person I know that has an STI (the envy of all). I have seen silencers for the exhaust so i know that's an option but im looking for a nice deep exhaust that i "may" be able to squeak by a cop w/. Any suggestions ?

I would recommend something with a similar to stock looking muffler in the rear. I've always like the Greddy SP2, but I haven't seen tons of them around. It definately looks and sounds nice too. The SPT (Bosal) is a good choice also.

as far as shops go id recommend harman motive in torrance,ca. its a bit of a drive from the 909, but ive yielded good results from there. with just a turboback, the k&n typhoon, and an accesport, i was able to get 290whp, and 330wtq.

if youre going to go for 95db or less on the exhausts, i hear all of tanabe's exhausts are below that limit. good quality too.

What HE Said^^^^!

The Bosal's from SPT are all designed to throw UNDER 95 DCB's. And they look great to boot. I just put one on my N/A Impreza and the sound is low and grumbles a bit. But if it is even 10% louder then stock I would be shocked ~ and this is WITH Borla headers.

They are also 50 state legal and causes NO conflict with warranty issues.

Since I live in Oregon where we are left pretty much alone for petty *ss tuning
taboos, I will be putting a HF cat and 18" resonator in next and the thing should be right at the level I want ~ quiet but deep!!!

im actually trying to go the same route as well though. the catback i had has made me deaf over the course of the year and now my radio is constantly in excess of "30" on my stock radio haha. My buddy at a meet yesterday let me hear his concept g blue and i was hooked. it still retains that mean *** tone, but the volume of it was reasonable and not stupid loud like my espelir.

i found some clips while researching this morning...
clips:

hope this helps in your decision making.

I have the Greddy SP2 on my 05 STi. Its the perfect sound for i wanted. Not too loud and has stock appearance. Its got a nice easy growl, until you mash it then it gets a little louder. I didnt want anything too loud. I luv it.

a little? lol, its pretty loud when you get on it! Great sound though. Anything catless will be pretty loud.

Go catted downpipe and stock muffler to minimize attention/sound.

Yea... ive been thinking that since i already have the STi exhaust, i would just change out my downpipe and leave the sSti cat-back on... That way, I could get the performance i need from the downpipe (and probably louder too) but still keep the look / sound close to stock. Not sure how this would work out though....

I did that when i forst got my catless DP. I put it on with the stock catback. It definately had a noticable difference in power. But it just doesnt seem right to have a 3" DP going into a 2.5" catback. Its up to you. But if i was you, and basically how i did it. Go with a catback that looks close to stock. Dont go with like a Ti or something that looks completely modded. My greddy sp2 looks dam close to stock. Thats what i wanted. When i was looking at catbacks that was main concern. Stock sleeper look. There are stock looking exhausts out there you just need to find one thats right for you. do some searches.
