The larger turbos are very sensitive to flow restrictions, so we have to free up the exhaust side to see the full power potential of the setup.

Hi Ed,

If sound was not an issue and the car had a free flowing exhaust, how much more could you get out of his setup? Just curious how the exhaust effects the output capability.

With a very free flowing exhaust, I would expect to see around 350-360whp on this particular setup.

Thanks

That's a huge difference!

Are you going to change out the exhaust or are you trying to keep it quieter to avoid attracting unwanted PD attention? I know you said you are having fun driving it at 310 whp, but could you imagine another 50hp?

Yes I will be getting a free flowing 3" exhaust, and yes 50whp is a huge difference. And that gonna be a kick *** 50whp

I've had an APS 3" single-tip for 4 years now, absolutely quiet at idle and off-throttle no one notices you at all, and you can't get better flow (I've seen cars tuned to 400whp with it)

it does look nice, is it a true 3" exhaust and why does it say good for only 350hp?

not exactly sure why it says good for 350hp. i'm pretty sure it'll hand much more since it is a full 3in exhaust.

the previous poster posted something that'll help.

They have one that's one step further but it looks more like the JIC/bullet-style exhausts with a giant 4.5" hole and is MUCH more likely to **** off cops. The 350 is a conservative figure, Dyno-Comp in Scottsdale (who tuned my car) has cranked out dozens of 400whp STIs with the 3" exhaust; one of them was a cover car on Sport Compact Car in 2006. Rich, who owns the shop, likes to use APS exclusively and is even featured on the APS site.

If you want to go with the bigger exhuast here it is:

http://www.airpowersystems.com/us_sp...wrx-hoe-r5.htm

Good for 600whp, but MUCH louder and more noticeable. My 3" system looks very stock, it looks similar to the SPT exhaust from the 2006-2007 STIs.
