i read a while back about the importation of "fake" turbos being shipped from hong kong or singapore or something and being sold in the US. many of them were so called "IHI replicas" and weren't the actual thing. i hope you don't have one on your hands right now because from the looks of it, it seem that you may have one of those many "fake" turbos. does it have a serial number on the compressor side. also, the IHI turbo part looks a bit funny, well from the pics that you've taken. hope the best for ya. try do a search on nasioc or something. i think someone actually did research on this. if i find it, i'll let you know. hope this helps.

 

well from the looks of it, it doesnt look that badly made. the compressor housing looks well machined, and so does everything else. all the lines and fixtures are there.
who cares what kind it is. just throw it in and see what it does.
im sure you didnt pay too much for it, as you baught it from "some guy".

 

well, if you're going to buy a VF series turbo, i wouldn't want it to be some kind of replica or something. those turbos are finely crafted and made in japan, so i think it would be better to find out if it's the actual one. hell, it would suck to use some junk turbo when come to find out later that it sucks and doesn't perform like the actual thing. money can be better spent, if that's the case.

 

here is an actual VF-34 this guy is selling. if you can get your money back, i suggest that you buy this one. also a very good price.
