I change my oil every 2500-3000 miles.
My 04 WRX consumes 1--11/2 quarts every oil change.
Subaru says that it's normal and to try useing a thicker motor oil.
Once I found that I had no oil in engine and the dipstick was
bone dry.Now I keep taps on my oil and check it every day.

Could bad piston rings be the culprit?

Dino 5W30 in my 02 WRX wagon. 3X,XXX miles when I traded her in and she never burned a drop of oil. That car was making 260 whp on a VF30 and supporting mods.

Dino 5W30 in my 04 STi. 19,XXX miles when I sold her and she never burned a drop of oil. That car made 279 whp on a TBE and tune.

Dino 5W30 in my wife's 05 LGT. 45,XXX miles to date and she has never burned a drop of oil. This car is basically stock.

Both the WRX and STi had multiple track days on them.

it could be the piston rings. have a professional check it out. you don't want to pay to much later on down the line.

Yep I agree.
What's funny is when I first bought my car I was running 5W30
Mobil 1 and the oil consumption was worse. Now I'm running the
thicker dino Castrol 10W30 and the oil consumption problem isn't
as worse.

I am going to live with the oil consumption issue.
If my EJ20 engine bits the dust it will be a great reason
to upgrade.
The thing is my engine runs fine without any signs of wear
so I will be keeping it.
After alot of research I found that bad valve seals or bad piston rings
could be the source of the problem.

i've used mobil 1 10w30 and castrol gtx 10w30.

my RS goes thru roughly 1 1/2 quarts every 2500 miles. it seems like a bit much to me... i'm going to try some other oils soon enough, and comment back with my findings.
