What motor oil is everyone using in their Rex?
I've been using 5w30 Castrol syntec but I just won a case of Royal Purple from a Subiesport drawing so I will be using that for awhile.
I'm sure you have figured this out by now but if you didn’t here is a link http://www.royalpurple.com/dealers/hia.html.
If the Neo doesn’t work for you check this out https://www.i-club.com/forums/showth...ght=syncromesh.

For tranny and diffs I intend to copy the subaru rally teams and use Neo...I've been having problems getting into first unless I go down to like 5 mph.

yeah that...minus the Lucas Oil Stabilizer. Oh, and minus the rex. I own an RSX-S.
This stuff is really good so far..I've used red line since oil change 3, and Mobil one every oil change since. This gives me a lot more low and midrange power than either one of the previous brands...we'll see how long this effect lasts, I burn a quart of oil about every 1500 miles! Goddamn 8100rpms...you're the death of my oil! BTW, I use GM Synchromesh Tranny fluid w/friction modifier...like BUTTA!

1 Quart in 1500 miles? You're kidding, right? If not, I'd like to find which oils you used since new (and your driving style during break-in) so I can add it do the list of "don't EVAR do that/ use that" list!!!!

what oil to use
Switching to a 10W-30 would not do any good in the summer. The first number (10W) indicates the oils cold flow properties and the second number (30) indicates the oils hot flow properties.
So you should not change to 10W for the summer as it will not add much hot temperature protection. Stick with a 5W-30 or similar oil and just buy a quality oil. If your vehicle is highly modified you may want to consider a higher viscosity oil but for most people the stock recommendation is best.
