What motor oil is everyone using in their Rex?
i recently changed my oil from mobil 1 to redline (both 5w30). some things i realized...
-mobile 1's oil pressure was at 2.0ish (bar) during idle after it reaches its operating temp.
-redline's oil pressure is at 2.5ish (bar) during idle after it reaches its operating temp. (almost like as if i put mobile 1 10w30 oil).
-mobile 1's oil temp was at around 90 degrees when the oil was fully heated at idle. when driving hard, i saw it go upto 120 degrees.
-redline's oil temp is at around 100 degrees when idle, but never reaches 120 degrees like mobile 1. and it took a lot longer to get the oil temp to reach the normal operating temp.
there are other differences i see when driving hard, but i need to look at my guages more carefully to give you any type of data on that.
i don't know if the above data means something... maybe i need more data??
at least to me...
redline takes longer and takes more heat to heat up, but has higher operating temp...
maybe someone can tell me if i am wrong or not?
edit: it was BAR not PSI

I've been using Valvoline synthetic, was told by a local shop that it is the same as Mobile 1, comes out of the same vat. Can anyone verify this? I also used it in a Mitsu GST since thats what the Mitsu dealer recomeneded.

This is where I got my Motul transmission fluid, I currently use Mobil 1 in the engine and Motul in the brakes.

As far as JohnQGearhead stating using different oils for summer and winter - with modern API-SL oils there is absolutely NO need to go with a higher viscosity oil in the summer!!! All you are doing is hurting your fuel economy. True, the crankcase oil temperatures will be higher in the summer, but it is relatively small and with modern oils having a high viscosity index (compared to many years ago), the change in viscosity is negligible. Plus, all modern oil can take easily take the higher temperatures.
