Weird Engine nosies
Hey Guys I've had my WRX Wagon for about 2 weeks now and I am not use to the Boxer engine at all.
Last night I turned off the radio and started to drive. I heard the turbo spooling but I also heard a lil rattling noise coming from where the turbo is located when im driving around 3k rpm. Nothing major but it was annoying. Has anyone expereinced this?
Also, does anyone elses WRX do a lil shake when idling? At idle I can tell that its a boxer engine because the car sways side to side ever so slightly and once in a while the revs jump slightly and the car jiggles. Has anyone experenced this?
Are both these problems normal or and I over reacting to the unknown?

Hmm... strange. My '04 wrx is fairly new (just reached 1k miles)... and I hear the same sound around 3k rpm or just below, especially if I accelerate slowly (or so I think).
I haven't experienced the jiggle you're talking about... but I've had subarus for a while so I could just be used to it.
Any ideas on the first one?

same here man. i get scared everytime i hear it when i accelerate. the car makes a different noise when ur reaching higher RPM's. i guess thats just how the boxer engine is. i no that these cars are not the quietest so im assuming its normal. coming from a regular 4 its a big difference.

heatshield? Naw, its not serious. But it can be fixed. Its usually caused by a pebble lodged up somewhere between the heatshields and the exhaust piping.
