TMIC w/out turbo upgrade
I have uppipe and full trurboback and am working on turbo, injectors, tuning, etc. In the meantime, I am picking up a TurboXS TMIC I found for cheap.
Should I install the TMIC now? May be a while before I can afford turbo and tuning. Any reason not to?

Also i have heard that some TMIC dont have any benefits and some even hurt performance.

Huck,
You'll be fine if you throw the top mount on without the turbo upgrade. As far as some topmounts hurting u, well, I dont really see how that could happen. Without tuning, ur lookin at minimal gains but i seriously doubt it will hurt u. The tuning is where the upgraded IC's really shine. So seeing as you're picking up the top mount already, might as well throw it on. Only thing I can think of is maybe a tiny increase in turbo lag but i doubt it. For a street car, a good top mount is all u will need. A front mount isnt all that necessary.
As far as the tuning goes....I would just stick with an EcuTek....ive talked to too many people that have blown their engines with the piggy backs such as the Utec...and ive heard of a fair amount of problems with the accessport as well. thats not to say the EcuTeks are perfect...but ive had the best experiences with them rather than the piggy backs. my friends 02 almost blew because of the UTec because its just a piggy back, the ECU started to change things and was running it really lean. Hope that helps out Huckleberry!

And which turbo are u planning on using? If u are going to be driving the car a lot...I would suggest the VF34....i LOVE driving my friends 02 with the 34 on his, still very easy to drive and LOTS of nice power, hehe.
also the 39 will... it's a good option now that so many STI owners are upgrading. Also there's nothing wrong with UTEC... it's obviously all about the tune/tuner, isn't it? Just have it tuned conservatively.

No, there isnt anything wrong with the Utec...it just isnt for those who do not know how to tune themselves because it will require constant attention...by constant i dont mean like daily or weekly, but it would be a good idea to check it from time to time, and use the maps from TXS only as a starting point...fine tune it to the specific car and it should be ok, just keep an i on it.

Well for reasons I've written in another post in this forum, you should exercise caution. Do you have a Knock meter and an Air Fuel Ratio meter to tell you if you're running OK now. Even after years of med school and practice, a doctor still needs the stethoscope without which he's simply making a guess like anyone one of us. Due to varying manufacturing, no two engines have identical tolerances, similarly to us humans, no two bodies have the same immunity level.
I didn't start the KNOCKLINK and LAMBDALINK craze back in 2001 (NASIOC.com) for fun. I firmly believed in using those tools to tell me what's going on under the hood and you just have to learn to interpret those vital signs. Every component that you change factory specs affects the Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) and the tendency to make the car run leaner is great with simple mods like running catless exhausts, bigger core intercoolers, are some examples that impact the AFR more than an air filter upgrade, for instance.
The most sensible upgrade is to do the ECU first this way you'll always be able to make adjustments on the dyno whenever major upgrade has been made: exhausts, intercooler, turbo, injectors, etc ...
