I guess technically it could, if you sucked in a bunch of water or something like that they could say it was the lack of the silencer. But in general for other things it would take one ****ed up dealer to refuse warranty work for a missing silencer.

it only takes 5 minutes to put back on. if you're worried, just put it back on before you go back to the dealership

you can just put it back on and they wont know the difference, unless something happened. or you do the hack then you've got to find someone's to borrow.

Technically speaking, fiddling with anything, ANYTHING on your car can void the warranty if the dealer "says so". So just shove it back in and try not to make any marks or scratches in "interesting" places and you should be okay.
On a side note, a friend of mine was refused under-warranty engine work on his S2000 merely because he had Volk TE-37s on. The dealership refused to give him service til he slapped his stockers back on. So it's not just us Suby boys that get a hard time at the damn dealerships.

5 mins my ***. It took me at least 30 mins to take it out. And I'm not mechanically impaired either.

This is illegal. There are laws that say a warranty cannot be voided unless the problem stems from the tampering of a part. Meaning that a dealership cannot refuse service because of wheels. Another example, if your rear diff breaks for whatever reason and they notice that you don't have the silencer on your car they can't void the warranty and refuse to fix the diff.

theworx: yeah I've heard about the consumers' law against it... I think it was called the Moss Act or something? But nonetheless, damn dealers still do as they please. Whaddya gonna do, take'em to court over refusal to fulfill warranty work? Probably not unless you're a lawyer, and in that case whaddya doing driving a WRX?! Shouldn't you at least be in an STi?
hashiriya: hisashiburi da ne? I've been here and there... since I'm still on winter break, I've haven't been on the boards as much instead of doing h/w or research

You actually don't even have to take them to court. There are a few cases on this forum and NASIOC that document the refusal of dealerships to warrant repairs on cars and in most of those cases all it took to resolve the problem was a call to the BBB. The BBB will look at the claim, then put pressure where pressure is due. Normally it works itself out. Dealerships are not an allmighty force, they have to abide by rules and laws just the same as everyone else. Unfortunately, most people do not realize this and are afraid to confront them.

My experience with the BBB (not car related) is that the BBB doesn't really put pressure on the establishment. They will just make an inquiry on what happened. IMO, they always give the benefit of the doubt to the establishment.

In my particular situation, the BBB just assumed it was a misunderstanding between the establishment and myself so the incident was listed on their website as "resolved". I know it is far from resolved.

It's always worth a try though, you can file a complaint online.

That's interesting that you would say that. I don't have much experience with the BBB, I have never submitted a complaint, but of the people that have that I have read about, that action seems to have solved their problem.
