Stock EGT probe failure
My stock EGT probe died. I have not seen it yet but I guess it is fried. I have been running 35 000km with stage 1 Unichip (91 gas), Injen intake, catless uppipe and down pipe. I always had a look at my EGT gauge. I had no EGT problems at WOT. I only had to watch for full boost under partial trottle.
The dealer does not seem to mind the mods he noticed. The work will be done under warranty.
How many of you guys had a stock EGT probe failure?
Thanks,
Mike

Do you have an aftermarket upipe? The reason I ask is that I have an early Perrin upipe and there was problems with the probe fitting on those units. Later units where sold without the Bung and a resistor to stick into the harness to stop the Check engine light. Because of the upipe my EGT probe rattled loose many times. No amount of lock tite or trickery ever solved it. Finally I thought I had it tight when I used Gasket sealer. It held for several weeks just fine. On a trip to las vegas I got a check engine light. I pulled out the laptop to have a look... and the code said the EGT sensor was "high" meaning unhooked. I noticed a loud turbo noise and slugish boost. You guessed it. The probe end rattled off and flew into my VF22 turbo taking it out.
What I suggest is that you purchase an M12X125 bolt and a Nut. Screw the nut onto the bolt shank. Then screw the bolt into the bung about 1/2 inch or so. Then tighten the nut down on the bung. This will never come loose or at least has not for me. Then purchase a 2.2k ohm 1/4 watt resistor. Bend the legs over and push them into the two prong plug by the Airbox. Toss the stock EGT probe into the trash can and get on with life. This will not effect the way the car runs in the least bit and you will never have to worry about it. The probe is only there to check the preturbo cat effeciency.

Thanks Clark,
After more reading and searching I came to the same conclusion. The car is locked up at the dealer for the week end. I will let them change the probe so my job will be easier.
When I get the car back, I'll replace the probe with a nut and a bolt and plug a 2.2kohm resistor.
I will keep the probe in case I sell the car without EGT gage.
