Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Question Stealth exhaust recommendations/advice please!

Hey everyone,

I'm looking into stealth exhaust options (and yes, I know the stock exhaust is the quietest one out there).
I've searched on multiple boards and right now what I'm looking into for the near future is the following setup:

gutted uppipe
catback or axelback exhaust
reflash

I'm hoping to get maybe another 30-50HP out of these and I think that will probably be the extent of my Power Mods (for now).
Stop and go LA traffic really doesn't allow for a huge amount of top end anyways. I'm probably looking more for low end torque
and acceleration anyways...

My question is this:
I would like to keep the other 2 stock cats on the car (i.e. OEM midpipe and downpipe). Yes, I know the downpipe is
where a lot of power is at, but I don't really want to go there yet.
I'm looking at the following catbacks with the following criteria - I want the exhaust to be as stealthy as possible sound wise(and visually if possible - no fart cans here please - I pass enough gas on my own thank you very much )
I've looked at unabombers data sheet on NASIOC and have come up with the following options....

1. Crucial TurboBlack - when it comes out - sounds like just a bad@ss catback.
2. Maddad Whisper - ?with the 2.5" taper so it can mount up to the stock downpipe?
3. Borla Hush - well, everyone says it's quiet but can drone at highway speeds
4. SPT exhaust - well, crud, I've got a bhutlod of subaru bucks lying around, so it'd be...well... free... kind of

any others I should consider?

I want to know what do I have to do to mount these up to the stock downpipe? Is there anything special adaptor wise
that I should know about before I buy?
I've heard that axelback is mainly for sound but if you want power as well, you need to go catback?
I've also read that unless you're planning on going over 350 HP, you don't really need a pipe bigger than 2.5" Is this true?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

Go to a exhuast shop and they will put a 3" magnaflow cb. It is same as the cobb and it is only $300 total. Is not loud at all. But the turbo spool is awsom if u have dp. $100 dp and $300 for cb. Best tb ever for the money. Trust me on this one. I have it on my 2006 wrx.

I have the Borla Hush and like it a lot - I'm sure my neighbors appreciate it too! I'm also running Borla headers, Helix catless up pipe, Cobb down pipe, and the Borla cat back Hush. It all opens it up and produces more power.

Thanks again for all the replies guys.
I think I will start off with Stage 1 with a Cobb Accessport first, then
I can always upgrade to stage 2 with the uppipe and downpipe/turboback.
