Sparkplugs & diff fluid for 02 WRX
Ok so it's that time again. I need to change out the spark plugs and was curious, "IF" i have to stick to the NGK. Are they sooo special that requires me paying $13 for them and waiting a day. I purchased a set of autolite double platinums. I've had good results with them in other cars, and figured why the hell not in this one. Just gotta gap them right.
Also how much fluid is needed for the diffs, Front and rear?
Can i use the same type?
Iwas thinking of Royal purple. Would i still need the limited slip additive?
Also any hints or advice for this job. first time with the soobie. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Search scoobymods.com and you will get info on that stuff. I'd reccomend keeping the NGK plats like the manual states. Double plats are a waste of money IMHO.
Yeah, why the hell are you changing plugs on an engine that's less than 2 years old? The risk of breaking off a plug or getting metal shavings in your cylinders is MUCH worse than any gain you would get from changing practically "new" plugs...

Well MR. Meilers seems like you got it all figured out. Well i'm sorry to have to be the one to let you know that you are wrong. Our wrx IS 2 yrs old, and we now have 41K on the clock. We were the first to own a WRX in WEST TX. SO yeah, i think it's about time. Some people change them anually along with diff/tranny fluid and radiator fluid. BTW i'm just busting your chops, don't take this too seriously.

41k seems about right (modern plugs can last well past 50k) but I'm "sticking to my guns" on this one -- changing plugs once a year seems excessive (not to mention expensive!) and having been the victim of a broken-off plug in my Isuzu trooper II, I just tend to caution people on this particular piece of maintenence. Having a mechanic go after your engine block with a drill isn't a fun experience, even for my "beater" car...
Let us know how the changeout goes...

i think in a performance car, especially one that runs rich, its not a bad idea to change them yearly, i am about to change mine and my car has 30k. i was also thinking about changing the injectors, for more than just for a tune up sake. but thats another forum.

Meilers: i know it says Columbus, but home is where the Air Force sends us. Hopefully somewhere else soon, as i really don't like this place. and i'm not a Texan, that's just where we were stationed while we bought our wrx. I'm from Jersey, which explains the mouth. But i've been checking the plugs since we bought the car. @10k 20k and 30k we don't race it, and it's mostly my wife's DD. The car does run pig rich, so if you race it, it wouldn't be a bad idea. You're right. dropping a plug, as simple as it sounds can lead to such disastrous things. Especially to your wallet. I change mine myself, don't trust anyone else. IN my RX7 they were changed several times a year. Granted it's FAR from stock, but that's something i had to compromise with, when i built the car.
