Tranny fluid and rear diff fluid is same?

I've been doing some research on how and what fluids to use on tranny and rear diff.

so far i understand, front diff and tranny shares fluids, center is sealed so dont bother and rear fluid uses KO305Y0900, factory fluid. http://www.subaruparts.com/catalog/?section=366

i hear mixed opinions on what fluids to be used and i read that front and rear can use the same fluid so i just wanted to make sure, is it true?

can KO305Y0900 be used for tranny/diff in front and for back?
and i hear 4.6 quarts for front and .8 for rear...this true too?

please, i did my searching so no "search first" comments :x

For whatever this is worth. I know my WRX is no Porsche, but I use Swepco Transmission Fluid. Had LIC put it in during some routine maintainance!

I had the Swepco from LIC put in mine also and it really works nice (once it's warm)..my WRX shifts a lot more smoothly now.

just like the other guys, i got some Swepco fluid.

honestly, i'm impressed so far. all the nasty notchy shifting is nearly gone. my 4th->5th gear grind is gone. and shifting, overall, is much smoother. i'm a happy camper!
