Exclamation Running rich at idle!!!

Hello everybody,

So I fired up the car this morning and after a 5 minute warm up I start to see small clouds of blue smoke I just recently bought my 03 WRX, and fortunately no problems thus far besides this morning. I'm wondering if any tech-friendly people could help asses my problem before it gets worse...

Here is a list of my mods that could be directly related to the car running rich

Greddy TBE
Sti injectors
Sti tmic
Turbo xs bov (vta)

Originally, I had a greddy recirc bov but after a while I noticed a leak in the adjustment screw, so a buddy of mine sold me the turbo xs for 20 bucks to get me by.

Could I be idling rich simply from running a vta bov? Or is it something more? I am also speculating that the injectors are sucking in too much fuel to be compensated by my OEM intake. I am planning on getting a tune, but my trusted guy is booked until late march, so I'm SOL until then I guess... Let me know what you guys think!

Thanks guys!
Jared

So you're not actually checking AFRs?

The only thing I'm checking is my narrowband gauge thus, which reads lean. I'm guessing fuel is soaking my o2 sensor, which is causing it to read lean. I know I'm running extremely rich from that wonderful smell

Change the O2 sensor. If you really are running rich the O2 sensor should be reading rich.

And put on a stock bypass valve and get rid of the BOV. BOVs are crap on MAF based systems.

Also. Are you tuned for the STI injectors?

Thanks for the input! I am tuned for the injectors, but I'm guessing the change from a recirc to a vta threw it off somehow?

Maybe your BOV is leaking at idle?

That could be a possibility, how would i go about testing that besides checking hose connections?

A buddy of mine had a similar issue with the blue smoke. It turned out he had a misfire in one of his cylinders. Might want to check that just to rule it out
