running catless dp, getting CEL (was: Bad for the car?)
Bad for the car?
Few questions.. On a WRX does the uni-chip or whatever you call it, change the air/fuel ratio, from the readings on the 2 oxygen sensors to keep it at the right level? and if so, will using a catless downpipe effect the air/fuel ratio reading for the engine? thanks... I do get a check engine light all the time due to the catless downpipe, am i hurting my engine? thanks all
use search, i saw a similar thread to this either earlier today or yesterday. You can just buy a cel fix for less than $15 from one of the vendors. Plenty of people run catless dp's. It's fine as long as the tree huggers don't find out
catless
Hey,
I'm running a catless tbe from the uppipe. You do need a resistor to prevent the CEL. It's a 2.2k ohm 1/2 watt. I bought a pack of 5 (you only need one but that's the fewest you can buy) from Radio Shack for 99m cents. No more CELs.

Good luck and enjoy your cat free exhaust!

ok but is my engine getting harmed in the process, since the o2 sensor is reading high levels of carbon monoxide is it changing the air/fuel ratio to the engine when it shouldn't be?
I Don't Care About The Cel Going Off What I Want To Know Is Since The Car Thinks Im Running More Gases Since I Don't Have Cats, Is It Telling The Ecu To Change The Air/fuel Ratio Going Into The Engine???

I'm pretty sure that the ecu sets the a/f ratio based on readings from the MAF sensor in the intake. That is why people have issues when they use cold air intakes.
