Getting rear ended, Bad for the car's performance?

Just a question that came up in my head. What if your car got rear ended and the front right bumper was hit by a guard rail (no damage from guard rail), would the car's performance be effected? Rear ended on the back right bumper, trunk and back window broken. Just wanted to know.

Nah... kinda far from the engine (the source of performance). If it's a front collision, then quite possibly, depending how hard the impact. And if anything, it could get fixed.

It will improve performance if you start screaming "whiplash" and use the money for an STI

are you talking about engine performance? or handling?

I got rear ended pretty bad last month by a Toyota pickup. Car still drove the same as before. I had to drive it home and then to the body shop a few days later, didn't notice any change in performance.

I've often wondered the same thing...

Both, more concerned about handling though.

well yeah, a jacked up rear end and no rear window will certainly mess with airflow and add some extra drag

No the car is fixed now, it looks new. But do you think the performance and handling is alittle messed up?

If the frame was bent and the tire contact points have changed in relation to each other, than it will never be the same. It could be made to handle OK, but it will always be a bit off.

definitely... you can cause damage to the frame.... and you will be able to notice a slight difference in steering.... especially if it caused camber.
if, when you go to allignment, you find that they have to push camber, etc to one end of the spectrum just to be within the required specs... then it's a good sign that you have issues.
