Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Yes, they work well on street-driven cars. The flex section can allow a slightly better seal when misalignment is encountered.

What about airflow? Does it flow as smoothly as a hard pipe?

It probably flows better than the cat does.

I meant does the catless flex uppy flow as well as a catless non-flex uppy. (i.e. Vishnu's flex uppipe vs. their 321 uppipe)

The flex uppipe likely does not flow quite as well as one-piece uppipe but both flow a lot better than the factory piece with the pre-catalyst.

Unless you're making that car a full-on beast I would stick to the flex uppipe. It makes life SO MUCH easier.

Some guys have had trouble with fitment for the non flex UPs and they end up having to take everything off and re-seat it all until it becomes perfect. I would rather just do that install once.

The difference should be minimal on a street car.

Could always go for a gutted OEM pipe as well, save yourself about 100 (if you buy one already gutted) or gut it yourself for free. Its also a flex design if I remember correctly, and if subaru looks at it in the car, they are probably not going to void your warranty unless they take the thing out and inspect it. Plus, fitment is perfect

flex up-pipe?

if installed correctly a non flex up-pipe should be fine. +1 on doing the install once. i went with copper gaasket from Crucial Racing to cut down any chance of leaks. lol
