Oil in the intercooler???

...so I'm still on a mission to get my funny boost spiking issue (which has been chronicled in several threads in here in the last 4 months) fixed, and with the car in the shop, there's a definite pressure leak under boost, like the wastegate isn't holding pressure properly. Swapping the I/C and BOV in from another car yields the same thing, so it's not either of those two, but the tech noticed a bit of oil in my intercooler when he removed it.
Has anyone else come across this, or know what it could mean?
THanks in advance...

WHat about the boost issue, though? It really sounds like the wastegate is sticking open, and the turbo is pulsing power at heavy throttle. Could this all be indicative of a dying turbo or wastegate?

The oil is pretty normal on a forced induction car (blow by). You can get an oil catch, if you want. This will collect the oil. The boost spiking can be many things. Do you have any aftermarket stuff on your car? The wastegate has a lot do with keeping the boost pressure stable through the rpm's. If something is wrong with the wastegate, then that could lead to problems. However, it could be something simple like a vacuum line that basically tells the wastegate what to do. I'm not sure what you have done to your car. If you have worked on your car yourself, go through both in your head and under the hood everything you have done. I know it is a pain, but you don't want to damage anything.

That's good to know on the oil.
As far as the boost issue goes, we've been through everything. Vacuum lines are where they need to be, and none are broken. the intake tract has been pressure tested to no faults. The boost solenoid was checked. The BOV and I/C were checked. Other than a removed intake silencer, and a Helix up-pipe, the car is stock, and the problem existed before those mods.
It's a head-scratcher...

Bobby - I tried unplugging the solenoid to see if the car went into limp mode, and even there, I got the same surging. It's at the garage right now, and on Monday they're swapping a solenoid from another WRX to test it fully.
JP - Mine does similar things to what you're describing, but it's not so varying. I never get a good day where things are normal, but I never get low boost, either. Basically, if I run the car at half throttle, boost will build normally right up to redline. As soon as I go WOT, though, it starts to surge on and off instantly when it gets over about 3500 RPMs. It's crazy.
Hmmm...I wonder. Is there anyone that could tell me if it could be an issue with the Throttle Position Sensor? Could that do it?
