Oil change
I'm thinkin of doin it myself, AGAIN. I use Mobil 1 but should i try sumthing better? Should i get a filter from subaru or NAPA. What am i lookin to pay from subaru and what will i pay if i buy the things myself. I've only got 8000miles so when should i change the other fluids? I can look in the manual for that i'm sure but facts about oil would be very much appreciated.

I"m between Mobil 1, Quaker State, Royal Purple, and Castrol synthic. Whats better? I've seen ads of Quaker reducing friction and royal purple adding horsepower. AND mobil 1 is athentic oil of nascar. AAaargh what to do

i used to use Royal Purple in my last two cars. You'll notice a gain in overall power especially if you have 80k+ miles on your car like i did when i put it in.
Unfortunately, i have a very hard time getting royal purple on the westcoast as opposed to when i lived on the eastcoast. I have to drive out of my way to a custom autoparts store just to get any and it costs a lot in comparison.
I just use Mobil1 now because everyone seems to agree that it works well and i haven't had any problems yet. And it's easy to get.
Bottom line, if you can get your hands on Royal Purple go with it. If not just use Mobil1.

For royal purple go to the waialae carquest has a ton of it. Its right next to the waialae subaru. Thats how i noticed the wrx. I was buying royal purple and as i was walking back to my car i saw is. Then the manager asked if i wanted to sit in it and i said ok then next thing i know i own one. But with royal purple it says that it sticks to your motor. But is that good or bad. It needs something to cling to right? So is it eating up your motor?peace.

I always buy my oil filter from the dealer, which is like $6 i think. I'm sure if you picked up a Purolator or Fram or something else from like PepBoys you'd probably still be ok, in fact i remember reading once that someone thought the OEM filter actually is some form of Purolator.. but i don't know... and i don't know enough about oil filters to know if those others are cheapo and bad news, so i pay the extra couple $$ and pick it up from the dealer. I would imagine a NAPA filter would be good quality as well, but again, i'm no oil filter pro.
To have my oil & filter changed at the dealer it runs $23.95. Might be different per dealer. Sometimes i have them do it if i don't have the time.
Also, i always use Castrol GTX oil... not sure why, but i figure using the same oil all the time is probably a good idea... for some reason.
