OK...this is the story so far ....
Bought a 99wrx 2 months ago(75K on the clock)...So far I have had to replace the turbo because it was making a grinding noise,Air flow sensor, anti roll-bar links,etc...etc...Replaced the turbo all ok and other bit and bobs. Now I have a new noise no matter what gear I am in between 4500rpm all the way up I get another grinding noise. It does not sound like metal off metal noise like the turbo was but more like a thick rubber or plastic noise. This noise sounds like it is coming from right hand side of the engine bay (if you are in the car). If I take the car out of gear and bring the rev up to 4500rpm no noise.
The car is completely standard at the moment.
Has anybody experienced this?
Could it be the gear-box/clutch...
When the car is running ok I love it but this is just a pain in the nuts and I am seriously thinking of selling it and going back to a honda for some peace of mind...
Since I have bought it I have spent at least €1000 and I still havent mod'd anything.
any help appreciated

Center Defferential.
This can be damaged by either running different size tires/wheels that result in different overall diameters OR from excessive use of the hand brake while driving, which makes the front wheels turn while the rears do not.
These will damage the center diff. Another way is to change the rear differential and not have correctly matched the gear ratio to the transmission/center diff. OR having put in a different transmission who's ratios were not made for the current rear diff on your car.
Front diffs are mounted to the transmission/center differential in case you were wondering.
Now, you should really get this to a performance automotive shop near you. There should be some quality shops in Britian whom specialize in subarus. They will be able to diagnose your car.

But you know what... It could be just age. The more mileage gets put on the car, the more noise it will make.
Get it looked at, and you should find your issues.

dont know if this helps but i noticed tonight on my way home from work that if I ease the acceleration on past 4500 there is no noise but when I floor it past 4500 the noise is back which I suppose would confirm your guess...I'm not losing any boost in that rev range either.
When I bought it the first thing I did was bring to a dealer and got them to check everything...they did say the the oil from the diff was very bad..What would you recommend if it is the diff?...should I just sell it or how much would it cost to replace?
Out of interest the clutch is out alot before it engages could it be possible it is the clutch slipping?
Anyway thanks again
