Minimum mods to make wrx = sti?
I know this is in the "WRX powerplant" section but there really isn't a 'WRX, the whole vehicle' section. I meant to get some discussion going about the what it takes to bring a WRX up to STI performance level.
I guess the brakes are really a no brainer, you can buy Brembos for alot of money, but the Stoptech BBKs give equal if not better braking for less money.
The STI handling isn't really all that hard to equal or beat either. The Subaru SPT suspension is probably equivalent to the NA STI stuff and the pink STI stuff is probably a step up. I guess you still might need to do stab bars.
I don't think the WRX turbo is up to giving a reliable 300 crank hp. That's why I suggested the Cobb 2.5 which needs a VF34 and injectors. Let's total this up, shall we?
Stoptech BBK $1695, Vivid Racing
Stoptech rear steel braded lines $69.99, Vivid Racing
Axxis Ultimates $32.99 rear, Vivid Racing
STi Factory Suspension Conversion $1275, Rallispec
Downpipe w/cat $575, Cobb Racing
Cobb AccessPort $595, Cobb Racing
Borla Hush Cat back exhaust $449, JSC Speed
VF34 turbo $729, JSC Speed
STI injectors $439, JSC Speed
Total: $5860 and that's without wheels and tires.
STI $31,120
WRX $24,620
difference $6500
Makes the STI seem like a really good deal, doesn't it?

im in VA and this debate is very valid. however i still havent seen a sti for under 38k here, but if you just want power buy a used wrx for like 18k and modify it that way you have like 13k to invest to make it equal. Im sure that you would be able to spank an sti for the same total money spent.
