Minimum mods to make wrx = sti?
Minimum mods to make wrx = sti?
What do you think would be the fewest mods/least expensive way to make a wrx perform equally as well as an sti in acceleration, handling and braking and have good reliability (let's leave out mbcs and other risky items)?
Would a Cobb stage 2.5, STI suspension, Stoptech big brake kit and 17 inch wheels and tires do it?

2.0 can be as fast as STi.
how about
upgrade turbo/boost controller/fuel system/ecu
that should make it as fast
strong brake pads (endless CCR etc..)
makes a huge difference with minimal investment and weight.
good suspention
you can something better than stock STi for about the same price

^agreed. go with a turbo of your choice with the proper accessories and tuning...
if you have the money get a big brake kit and 17s
coilovers and strut bars, anti-lift kit, and whatever else
that should make it an amazing performer...you should be able to keep up with stock stis with that stuff

What hp does an STi make stock to the wheels? I thought I heard it was like 230. If that's true, a Cobb Stage 2 would get you there power wise. The Stage 2 is a turbo back exhaust with the AccessPort reflash and puts 225 to the ground.

I put 218 to the ground two weeks ago with stock turbo and both stock cats still in place (helix uppipe and STi OEM axleback though.) If you do the right mods you can get a surprising amount of hp. I also did prodrive intercooler hose, UR underdrive pulley some other stuff and, oh yeah, UTEC v4.2
I'm putting in a Stromung 3" dp soon though need to get above 300 crank so my STi sidemarkers stop being r1c3.

Is that safe with the stock turbo back exhaust?
I was wondering if it was safe to have that much power without a TBE. I would think with that much power and the factory TBE you would be increasing back pressure a lot. The only reason I would think this is because Cobb reccomends TBE with stage 2 and thats puting down 224 at the wheels with a TBE (but you do have some mods that Cobb stage 2 doesnt).

You may be putting down 220 HP at the wheels, but don't forget about the torque numbers. A WRX doesn't have anywhere near as much torque as an STi. That is what gets you going off the line. You may have that 200 HP at the wheels, but probably only have about 190-200 ft. lbs. of torque, at the most. A 2.0L is going to be harder get torque out of then a 2.5L. Just a thought.
