Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

whistling sound? Is that the turbo or the air passing your car.

Also how hard would it be to install an aftermarket speedometer that reads to 160?

I think he's talkin' about the side mirrors or some other part of the car the wind hits and whistles off. Go above 110 and listen for yourself... j/p

The only time I went 120+ was at 4am on an empty 880 freeway when I looked in my rear view mirror and saw 1 pair of headlights which were my friends.

Other than that, 100+ isn't too smart when you think about all the other people on the road. (of course this doesn't regard smokin' some Mustang or SRT-4 sittin' next to you). Our cars have bad top end anyways.

Keep in mind that even tires that are rated for higher speed than the stock RE92s can blow out from sustained high-speed runs, or if there is a structural defect in the tire. My friend had a blowout at ~125 mph and was only able to safely get off the freeway by downshifting to use engine compression to slow him down (brakes don't work well when a tire is missing). He overrevved and spun a bearing but came safely to a stop off the freeway.

Almost every year at Nevada's Silver State Classic high-speed competition, at least one car suffers a blowout and many crash off the road and completely demolish the cars.

different info

BAN SUVS

Well thats interesting.

I wonder where the communication disconnect is, cause you obviously got different info than quickscooby did.

I hate it when two people go to the same vendor and come away with different info.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see if Shiv will jump in here to clear it up, or see if some other user has the same experience of a hard fuel cut at 160 and below boost limit.

I read somewhere, redlined in 5th the wrx would go about 180. I got 120 in 4th and that wasn't redlining it!

Hmmmmmm. 100+ mph on the street. Not a good idea. Be careful boys. At 140mph, looking in your rearview for cops is really the last thing you should be worrying about.

Seriously, dont be stupid. 140mph on the street is stupid. Period.

I crashed a Mustang at 120, that was fun. I also had my old Talon up to 165 or so on 23 going up into Michigan. It would have made it up to about 180, but I got scared of a 13 year old car going that fast.

Just for you number-crunchers, here's a fun website: http://www.smokemup.com/auto_math

With frontal area and drag coefficient (all grabbed from carsdirect.com), you can apparently calculate the exact HP needed to reach a certain speed.

Code:
Drag Coefficient:0.33
Frontal Area:23.9
MPH Force (lbs) HP Required
10 2 0.1
20 7.9 0.4
30 17.8 1.4
40 31.6 3.4
50 49.4 6.6
60 71.2 11.4
70 96.9 18.1
80 126.6 27
90 160.2 38.4
100 197.7 52.7
110 239.3 70.2
120 284.7 91.1
130 334.2 115.9
140 387.6 144.7
150 444.9 178
160 506.2 216
170 571.5 259.1
180 640.7 307.5
190 713.9 361.7
200 791 421.9
250 1235.9 823.9
300 1779.7 1423.7
Since the WRX is gear limited to about 178 mph, depending on tire size, you'd theoretically need about 300whp to reach top speed in the WRX.
