speed limiter
The stock WRX 2.0 L will hit top speed at about 144 mph, with upgraded turbos folks have hit near 160+ mph ( verified by GPS) not recommended but it has been done.
The 5Mt WRX does NOT have a speed limiter it is drag limited at 144 because it does not have the power to go faster. The Automatic does have a speed limiter at 130 mph IIRC.
Vishnu ADDS a speed limiter to the 5mts when he reflashes them. Doesn't bother to tell the user until they discover it.

why does vishnu do that?
i am thinking about getting a reflash and i have an automatic. I will send mine to cobb tuning to get a reflash and they will take the speed limiter off if i want. I dont understand why vishnu does that to the 5mt without the owners permission.

100 for about 5 seconds then I go back down to my comfortable speed of 80mph... I don't feel safe going fast because all that runs through my head is, what happens if a tire blows out, or a deer jumps out, or this person decides to cut right in front of me..etc
I'll skip the risk for now and continue to live :-)

Not according to this user
Thats not what shiv told quickscooby when he called to find out why he hit speed limit.

I talked to Shiv. He said that it's a speed limiter that he put into the ecu on the reflash because i only have an sti intercooler. So that's what it was. It's set at 160. He said they don't worry about it on a stock car because there isn't enough power to push the car there.
And for the record: I was told by Shiv and his staff that topspeed runs is not good for the car by any means because of the sustained rpm and boost levels and the heat that is generated. So i won't be doing it again.

And I agree with Nigel. I used to be a speed demon, until I realized the hard way that despite AWD and great tires, no car can stop on a dime.
Please, be careful when you are going fast. I know it's fun, exciting, gives you an adrenaline rush, but please stay safe. If at all possible go to a race track to toy around, or at least a straight, wide open area.
There are so many possibilities of "what if" that could occur while you're cruising along at 120 mph. If I remember my physics correctly, when you double your speed limit, you increase your stopping distance 4-fold. No matter what your brakes etc. are, the momentum will overtake all your performance mods if it needs to.
Stay safe, drive responsibly, if not for your sake do it for the sake of others.
hmmm.... Good point on the 04s. Any 04' owners want to pitch in on the top speed of a stock car?
I've personally yet to make a top end run, because in boston the roads are too conjested, most people just switch lanes when they want to and don't look, and i'm afraid of loosing my lisence and thrown in jail!
But, i guess it's still nice to know what the theoretical top speed would be.

I just spoke with Shiv regarding htis, and he does not add a governor. Even Vishnu tuned WRXs are bound by the laws of physics, and those laws arrest the forward progress of the car at the speeds mentioned above.
