Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Am I correct that all of these mods no longer use the stock air scoop?

It isn't in use, but leaving it in place is a good idea for appearances.

you can make it so the stock air scoop is still in use. You just need the replacement elbow ~35 bucks shipped.

Lightbulb I quote....

Huck,

The fact that we don't claim very much of an increase in power is due to
the MAF signal not being distorted. On a WRX you will see very minimal
gains under 300 whp. While we try to share as much of our R&D as
possible with our customers, we cannot share all as the competition is
out there. Careful placement of the MAF sensor within the intake, MAF
sensor housing size, and MAF housing location makes the difference. We
don't use off the shelf tubing and actually have to machine the
extrusions to the proper size.

We endorse our intake with all UTEC kits as we know you will not have
problems due to MAF distortion.

Thanks,

A bit more from the source...

Huck,

Yes, we fully endorse using the intake with our kits and you will not
encounter MAF distortion issues. We are honestly not a company out to
make a quick buck otherwise we would sell fuel rails

Initially we were not going to release an intake but we were forced to
when we released the FMI. Our research showed us that even though
intakes (when tuned) result in very minimal gains, it was the look and
sound people were really after. Over 300 whp you will notice a
difference especially in throttle response.

Thanks,

honestly, you don't even need to go that far. The oem subaru box filters are fine and good quality. some people had problems with oiled filters. I made a habit of recharging the filter then leaving it out to "air-dry" for about a couple days. Meanwhile i put the Oem filter back in. I never put the K&N back in because the Oem Filter has stayed very clean for 4000 plus miles and seems to be working fine.

overall, filters are up to you... i think gains are questionable just like the "grounding mod" and certain Cai's, SRI's

I did the same thing with the Summit velocity stack. Like I've posted elsewhere, I don't expect that this creates a major increase in HP or even throttle response, but just from I've read, by eliminating the resonator, you are removing a restrcition (of about a 1.5psi pressure drop @ 7000rpm). The day I added the airhorn to my stock box, I took the car on a long hard drive up Highway 1 from Point Reyes up to Mendocino and noticed the car had a slightly fiercer top end, especially in the top 3 gears. Slight is the key word, but I noticed it when passing slower cars where permitted. The engine gained rpm quickly. My only other change (before the airbox) was a Prodrive axle back.
Never any CELs.

Sisqocqk,

Where did that metal air horn thing going into the fender come from? Where can I get one?
Thanks.

BrianH,

Where can you get the replacement elbow?
Thanks.

Well if you get that thing going into the fender you don't need the elbow. I ordered it directly from http://www.generationplastics.com as they were the cheapest, also the quickest to respond when I was looking to buy.
Here's the link: http://wrxintake.generationplastics.com/
You'll also see their short ram intake there, I didn't check on the price but as I understand it their short ram intake is one of the cheaper ones in the industry. I'm not sure how it performs though.

The part is available from Summit Racing Equipment - part number is AVC-19002 and was 29.90 total. When entering the part number a picture will not show up but this is the correct part.

Go here: http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...9002&x=12&y=12

BTW: when you get that part into fender wall and have the bolt through the fender wall it may take some effort to get everything to stay. Trust me.. you'll have to push fairly hard in an upward motion and the velocity stack will hold.

If you have a stock WRX and want a new intake, read that link. God had some startling things to say.
