Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Intake issues...

...so I'm slowly figuring this thing all out.

I picked up my '02 used from a local Mazda dealer. It's def. seen mods...It has some aftermarket Maxxims on it already, had Altezzas (swapped out for stock), shaved badges, marks from where there was a front strut tower brace, and so on...basically, it's been used, and I'm in the process of nursing it back to health.

My question is on the intake. In looking at the engine bay, I can see a space just forward from the stock air box. (God, I wish I had pics...) There's a cutaway in the right front engine bay wall right there that has the top of the stock plastic snorkel-thing sticking out. Well, almost sticking out. It doesn't quite line up with the cutaway (It's a bit lower), and it looks like there was something bolted around the cutaway that isn't there anymore. The airbox looks untouched and in the correct location. Is this snorkel supposed to hook to the stock airbox? Or is there another piece behind/below the airbox that i can't see? I'd love to make sure that everything is in the correct place before I grab a drop-in filter.

Thanks again, everyone. I appreciate all the help and the welcome.

--->DJ

the snorkel hooks to the airbox and there should be a black piece infront of the airbox that feeds from right under the hood to the snorkel.

Yup. Not there. This would explain alot. Does anyone have pictures of the stock engine bay with this all in place?

Try wrXratd's project pages. He's documented a ton of working mods, along with lots of pics. Some should include the stock airbox, since he's retained it.

EDIT: Corrected spelling of wrXratd's screenname.
