Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Question '06 2.5i cold air intake issues

I recently put a cold air intake on my 2.5i. It's a solid install., no air leaks. I did not take off the 'bread box' that's attached the the throttle body. I simply replaced the stock corrugated pipe with a smooth one, and with a cone filter on the end. It is not a custom made intake, you can buy it at a parts store, you piece the parts together to fit your application. They even had the correct mass air flow sensor fitting. Within 50 miles, the check engine light comes on. The code is "lean engine condition." Too much air?? I did try and blocking some of the air drawn in by the cone filter, with the same results. I'm tired of disconnecting the battery to clear it, lol. Any ideas?

Thx

NO NO NO, GET RID OF THAT CRAP. I know the parts your talking about pep boys carries it over hear. the problem it that you can piece them together so they FIT in your engine without regard to actua air flow. whats happening is that the air is passing through the sensor in such a way where the readung is off. so you run lean. I had that setup for a month untill i got it down, no more CE light. I sold a few of my setups on ebay, and had to coach folks online on how to get it right so the light doesnt go on.. Its a headache and that huge filter that goes with it doesnt really do you much good.

im telling you, its really not that great of a product, switch over to a weapon R or something of that nature. Ive got that on right now and its working wonders.
