Help!!!
My downpipe install went horribly wrong. I have no clue what happened. I removed my stock dp and put on an hks dp and now my turbo is smoking!!!. I didn't disconect anything from the turbo except the 5 bolts from the dp and the heatshield. I didn't put all the bolts for the heatshield back on. Could one of the bolts that holds the heatshield have something to do with the smoke. I'm almost 100% sure the smoke is coming from my turbo.

If I can't answer right away it's cause I'm in the garage trying to figure out what I did wrong, but please post anyway.

THE SMOKE IS GONE!!! I ripped everthing apart and put it back together again. I think I put the gasket to the dp on backwards. It has five holes and if you put it on backwards the fifth hole will be on the wrong side of the turbo. I still smell something though(the same smell as the smoke). I did use wd40 so maybe that might be it too, but I used it last night when i installed the dp, and it started smoking after 5 min of driving this morning. I still don't trust that smell though. My turbo also screams like a banshee. Do your guys turbos scream loudly. I did do the resonator mod, but it was never this loud. Should it get louder with the dp? Oh and the smoke was white. I didn't see anything inside the exhuast side of the turbo and it spun freely. If my turbo isn't getting oil will the turbo smoke? The oil lines were secure when I checked but just in case how do I know for sure?

I have an up-pipe, down-pipe and blitz nur-spec exhaust.
The exhaust was the last thing installed, and before it was installed the turbo did "scream" but now it isn't really that big a deal. I asked around and nobody could help, but like I said after the exhaust was installed it just went away. Maybe the stock muffler and no cats was the cause of it.
But I don't know you're set up.

Did the smoke come from the turbo, or out of the exhaust? If it came from the exhaust, it could just be lubricant burning from the inside of the downpipe, they have to lube it to mandrell bend the piping. If it was coming out of your exhaust pipe, and went away after a little driving, its probably normal.

Sorry to reply so late, I've been super busy as usual. It's a couple days later and still no smoke. I guess it was the wd40 i sprayed on it to loosen the bolts. At the time it just seems like a lot of smoke for it to be jus tthe wd burning off. The smoke was comming off the turbo not out the exhaust. Thanks for all your help and ideas.

lol, it was the downpipe... they use a gel in the mandrel bending proccess to prevent the metal from cracking... and it burns off after a day or two. its normal folks... move on now, nothing to see!
