emissions crap: i need a cat - how should I do this?
Too bad that are strict emissions testing here in Ontario Canada. Now I need to sell my Helix downpipe and find another option. I have my up-pipe out too.
There are a few options that I have in mind:
1) get a scoobysport or bosal DP that leaves the stock midpipe in with its 3rd cat. But that leaves me with the stock 2" diameter and the restrictive stock cat. I assume there aren't much gains to be made here??
2) Some sort of HIGHFLOW cat. The only ones I know of are RandomTech and TurboXS. I think this maybe the way to go, but I don't know if this ONE cat will replace the function of all 3 that I will rip out??
3) just the cat back + up-pipe....this will suck. Probably not really an option, but a possibility.
thanks guys!

yeah, i've read on here that some people have gotte n by here in California (really strict) by switching their turbo back, back to stock. the up pipe is a pain in the *** to take in and out, but if you already have it out, i would just stick it back on.
I don't know how strict emissions are in Canada but here in california I know of several people that have pulled all of their cats and when it comes time to pass smog they switch out their midpipe to one with a slightly larger cat than stock. Most exhaust shops will custom make something like this for you.
Cost should be about 50~100 for the cat and probably about 30~100 for labor (depends on how well you know the guy).

yes I saw that, but it seems pricey. The mid-pipe+high flow cat itself costs $330.

Do a search in the BAIC section of NASIOC...a local guy just passed the CA smog sniffer with ONLY a single high-flow cat (MRT i think).
That was almost as amazing as the fact that he passed the VISUAL muahhahaha!

I'm thinking that the smog check technician didn't look very carefully because a lot of those high-flow cats look more like a bulge in the pipe compared with the factory cat. The Strömung and the Random Technology third cat pipes look like that (just a bulge).
I still want to try one of those pipes in the future and just take it to some smog station that is in a lower income area of town - might be desperate for the business and overlook my aftermarket cat. Of course, I might even have 50k miles on the car by then, too.
