EGT Sensor on U/P
Hey guys,
I have a question about the EGT Sensor on the up-pipe. Back in December I had a Cobb Tuning Up-pipe installed on my car along with an Accesport with a Protune Stage 2 custom map. For the second time in 3 months the EGT sensor has fallen out of the bung on hte up-pipe. It came out for the first time about a month and a half ago. I got underneath the car and fixed it and till 2 days ago it fell out a gain! Is there any suggestions on keeping the sensor in for a longer period of time than 1 month? I was skeptical to use something like LocTite since the sensor is internally mounted to up-pipe.

When I replaced my up pipe, my sensor kept falling out too. I think it was because the exhaust gas was hotter than stock and it may have messed up the threads by maybe making them expand more than usual, thereby causing the sensor to fall out and eventually I started getting CELs. My fix was having a transistor installed into where the sensor plugs into the ECU and putting an M12x1.25 bolt in where the sensor was. :-) Not sure what year you have or if it would be a different size, but that's what I would suggest. Can anyone back this up with some factual info? :-)

This is a an easy fix. First go to your nearest radio shack and ask them for a 2.2Kohm 1/2 watt resistor. 99 cents will get you six of them. Take one of them and trim off a little on each end so it dosent stick so far out of the plug for the EGT sensor. All you need to do is stick one prong into one side and one in the other. I gutted my old plastic cover for the plug and pushed it on over the resistor for added protection against it falling out. Next I broke my EGT sensor off and used it as a plug to fill the hole. I cut the wire for it so it wasn't floating around in the engine bay and so far no problems. Like said above you can use an m12x1.25 to fill it also. The bolt is a little hard to find sometimes but you shouldn't get a CEL. This is very easy and should only cost you about 5 dollars and half hour to an hour of your time.

My reasoning in getting the bolt was that I figured if I went out and bought a new sensor, it would just break under the heat again, so it would be a waste of money. I'm not sure if I was getting CELs because the sensor itself was burnt out, but I stopped getting them after this fix.
i did the fix... bolt w/ resistor... just make sure to tighten that bolt really tight...
the resistor was really simple too, just make sure you wrap it up with something so it's not exposed to the elements
