On a stock system (no unichip, UTEC etc) a flashing CEL indicates a real-time misfire. There is no indication for knock.
You may want to check your coil packs and plugs to make sure the wiring is secure and the plugs are in good shape.
If you have mods the problem may be related to that.

ahh... the blinking CEL.... means that there is something very wrong with your car. You definitely should check the ecu with a scanner to see if any codes are stored, and as mentioned above, check the coil packs.... Next, check your spark plugs....

The flashing CEL occurred to ne a few weeks ago... The cure? Buying a brand new shortblock for my car since pistons 2 and 4 were shot......
