Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Cel p0546

Hey all I just bought a 2005 WRX about a month ago and noticed the CEL came on a few days after buying it. Concerned, I took it home and scanned it to find just one code - P0546, the infamous EGT sensor code.

Now, the guy who had the car before me had an exhaust system on the car, and I assume he had a catless up-pipe at one point, which probably burned out the EGT sensor. Also, I have noticed my peak boost only goes to about .08 MPa which is about 1-2 psi lower than it should be, and I have read about this same situation here : http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/arch.../t-269651.html

Does any one know the procedure for probing the EGT sensor with an ohmmeter to test if it is burned out? Or should I just go ahead and do the 2.2K resistor fix? ORRR should I go buy a new sensor and put it in (assuming I determine the old one to be bad).

Any advice is much appreciated

thanks

Does the car have an aftermarket UP? If so, you should just install the resistor or get a tune that will clear that code. If its the stock UP, I would highly recommend replacing it as the EGT sensor and UP cat can fail and take out the turbo eventually.

I'm pretty sure he put the stock up-pipe and everything back on, although I am waiting to here from the guy to confirm 100%. The EGT probe is definitely in there, and i put the resistor in for now. So you're saying if it is the stock up-pipe that I should replace the EGT sensor? Or replace the up-pipe?

thanks for the help

I would replace the stock UP to get rid of the pre-turbo cat.
