Boost Leak

I think that I have a boost leak but I don't know were it is. I hear a sound like "shhh" just real fast every so often when I am driving. I also am not hitting peak boost. I was hitting 15.1psi and now I am hitting just over 13psi. I did not know how to find the leak. Is there any easier way to find it other then taking everything apart? It is just hard to find it because it is not a continues sound that I can just find by the sound. Any help would be great.

make sure all your hose connections are secure for starters. when did you notice the leak? have you installed or changed anything recently? check the connections on your uppipe too.

Ok. My brother has a SRT4 and he found this and I think I may try it. It lets you do a pressure test on your car. I figures I would post for everyone to see.

Do a pressure test! So far, we have found boost leaks on every single SRT-4 we have pressure tested. You can't tell there is one until you do the pressure test. Some were not leaking until after 10psi or even 15psi. After we fix the leaks, the cars feel like beasts. It makes you go thinking you probably had the leak since you got the car over a year ago. Remember, there is NO WAY to tell for sure unless you have a pressure test done on the car.

If you don't know how to make it:
Just get a 3" coupler (or whatever your intake is) and a PVC cap and a couple hose clamps. Screw a valve into it like that's on a tire. Take off the filter (or lower part of it if it's a CAI). Put on the coupler and cap. Then, use a tire pump. If you don't have a good pump, you could go to a gas station and do it real quick with their tire pump. Use some common sense on it. Thee car definitely needs to be OFF.

Try to do this as often as you can. With all the torque, things can loosen over time. Boost is everything for our cars. Do not let it go to waste or you may get beat by an RSX.

OK, the one we made and I posted is designed for anyone that has a 3" intake. For example, on an AGP CAI, this is where we put the pressure tester:
Then, just use the same type of pump you would use to fill up your tires. Watch your boost gauge and stop once it gets to 15 or 20 psi. Listen for leaks. They are VERY audible.

Here are some examples of us fixing some leaks:
1st car: Leaking at HKS BOV flange and the C-clip that holds on the BOV on the flange. I took the pipe off, unscrewed the flange off with the BOV, and put RTV all over the C-clip where it was leaking. Then I put RTV on the threads for the flange. I screwed it on and then put RTV all around the flange. I let it sit for 24 hours. We pressure tested again and no leaks.

2nd car: Leaking straight out of the HKS BOV and hot side pipe that connects to intercooler. He tightened the clamp on the coupler for the intercooler. He took apart his BOV and put it back together tightening all the allen screws. No more leaks.

3rd car: Leaking where short hot side connects to stock long hot side pipe. He tightened the clamp right there and no more leaks. Then, he pulled a C5 vette hard and kept pulling. He is stage 1 + bolt ons and boost controller. This one did not leak until 14psi and even a leak that small still made such a big difference.

The stock turbo IS NOT 3". That's why it's easiest when you have a 3" intake. You will have to find a coupler and cap that will work with the stock turbo inlet. I think it's 2.25". Same concept, but simply use a different size cap and coupling.

The dealership will probably have no idea what you are trying to ask them if you take it in. That's a bad idea. Make it yourself so you can always have it. Paying a shop to do it would cost way more.

Some more things to think about...
If you have an intake like the AGP, then all you need is the Cap. Look, you already got the coupling and clamps holding the intake together. Like it's been stated many times, just think about it as you do it and you'll figure it all out.
