****, my STi burns so much oil I don't even bother to change it.
However, I do change the filter every 4K miles.

^^ what did happen to jeff? i used to use amsoil but in my prelude it broke down way tooo fast.

for my sti i try and stay on top of oil changes....every 4k or so. i use castrol syntec 5w30. for my rx7s i always used castrol...so its more of a superstition thing for me .

Im my prelude i change it every track day (drag not road) so every 2-3 miles i change it haha. i use RP or Torqo.

From what I've heard about synthetic oils and brands - all it is, is that they're all very similar in regards to labeled viscosity, where they differ is the additives and detergents.

He'll have to answer that as I'm not 100% sure and I don't want to pass on false information. All I know is he used to sware by it... now he doesn't.

^^ only thing i can think of is because i know how fast it breaks down and how tight the clearances are in our motors....did the bearings go byebye?????

i used to swear by it too...untill after using it for about a year and burning oil faster than anything pulling my motor and seeing the premature wear i was getting....switched oil and everything was fine!

I can never find it at WalMart!

I use 10w 30 Mobil one full syn. i have 120K miles now, should i change to a different rated oil?

blacktraxgirl....she's easy on the eyes ....has a great sense of humor ....and can determine premature bearing wear in an internal combustion engine!!

Do the piston rings disappear when the car is cold started or something?

I use Castrol Syntec 0w30 (european blend, made in germany) in my STi, OCI varies between 4K and 5K miles with the oem filter. It gets great oil analysis and tests show that it is almost a 40w oil - perfect for year round use.

AutoHQ... would it be safe to say you guys are full of complete **** here?
The motor oil viscosity in your head is 99w-1 (99 mentally challenged when its cold, and 1 full of **** when its hot)

I guess all of Japan is full of it too?

That comment is out of line, don't you think?

If you have anything to contribute to the conversation, please do, and bring facts and evidence, but otherwise, comments like yours are only going to derail the discussion.
