I advise, do it BEFORE it goes bad! Also be sure to change before and after a track day. And if it comes out clean, you should be happy that the $40 u spent on oil was worth it. Because if you left it in there, and it had metal chunks in it, you'd be very unhappy in a few days lol

I am happy that people are saying what they use, how frequently they change their oil. Bringing attention to the matter overall is what will help some folks out there get on the ball about their scheduled maintenance before it's too late (of course, you never really know when it's too late until some damage is detected). And most people respect each others' opinion and information.

They probably did this to cover thier asses....people were probably running up to 7K+ miles (since it was in the manual) and not checking the oil - If you dont check your oil in a 7K OCI bad things can happen.

there is no such thing as a true synthetic motor oil. It has to come from somewhere to be created.

Synthetic motor oil usually starts with some real oil as a base for it's creation.

but to completely synthesize motor oil can't be possible, have to use some sort of natural materials, and I'm sure some oil as a base.

How about on other types of engines? Turbocharged I-4's, Turbo I-6's, N/A V8's, etc?

What makes the turbocharged Boxer engine so special that it needs an oil change every 1500miles? And does it apply to Porsche Turbo engines too?

Personally I would stick to something like 10w oil for a street driven car and keep the changes to 3,000 miles.

FWIW, we use Mobil 1 15/50 on our track car and change it every day of track use.

we recommend 5w30 Mobil 1 for syn or a 5w30 reg for cars under 120k miles or 10w40 for cars with 120k+ and/or if the car is burning oil with lighter oil (depends on health of motor). We recommend syn oil changes every 5k miles and 3k miles for reg oil changes

we also personally use Mobil 1 15w50 for our track cars and change them every day of track use.

***ON a side note, i have a 2002 WRX with 141k miles on it, I change my oil (M1 5w30) every 8-10k, the owner prior to me did 2 oil changes in 50k miles. My car runs great and oil samples come back perfect every time I do it. It just proves a point that these oils are really that good. Although I dont recommend this for customers, even though some do it regardless***
