Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Assuming you have a big enough turbo to flow enough air justify an 8K RPM limit, I'm not sure if the stock heads would support that amount of flow. Even then, that's putting over 1K RPMs on the entire engine including the bottom end. I don't think this is a situation where you can throw on some stiffer valve springs and be done with it.

You're probably better off getting the entire EJ207 engine and transmission for something like that. The engine and head modifications you would need to make on the EJ205 just don't seem like they would be worth it. Plus, the EJ207 comes with a valve timing system, an 8K RPM limit, forged internals, and other goodies that put our's to shame.

Good luck!

Turbo Lag much?

GT35R + EJ205 = dyno queen

I would highly recommend you consider a different turbo first. That set up is going to give you awful response all the way up to ~4500 RPM. Spool is going to be plane terrible. You can save yourself a lot of trouble with a 20G and meth or alky injection.

Have you done any kind of research on what set up you want? You seriously don't need a turbo that big. You would probably get slaughtered by other WRXs with smaller turbos because they will have a much more usable power band. Not to mention all of the stress that GT35R would put on your engine internals and drivetrain.

Peak horsepower numbers are for Camaro and Mustang fanboys... it's all about usable power dude!

At 8000k you have to worry about so many things -- valve lash, injectors "going static," drying out the oil sump, heat shocking the pistons, etc. The amount of work it takes to move the RPM limit north is nothing less than a fully-built engine from cams to crank to pistons and block. When you consider that the power for turbos on the 2.0l block falls off like crazy past 6500 RPM, there is no reason to go further -- it won't make you any more power. You run into limits of the intake manifold, throttle body, intercooler and many other parts of the system that deliver air and fuel.

I'm glad you like it, seriously. But have you tried other WRXs with 18G or 20G turbos? Boost comes on much sooner and still holds on strong after 6K. I really think you're missing out. Or maybe it's just me, I could never tolerate that much lag. When I step on the gas, I want power. I'm hardly ever at 4500 RPM on a normal day.

I dunno, I hope you're happy with your current set up then.

STI engine/transmission would be better for a gt35r. the EJ20 and EJ25 have oil issues when you bump the redline up. (like meilers said) built engine is about the only way to SAFELY increase your redline.
