4eat transmission and bov question
Is there any 4eat owners witha bov that can help me. I just bought the turbo xs type h bov. It is rated for 10-25 psi. I am running an turbo xs axleback, k and n air filter and the silencer mod for now. i plan on getting a cobb tuning reflash stage 0 some time this winter.
my question is when i got the car in park and or nuetral and rev the engine the bov goes off and sound s awesome. The problem i am having is getting the same type of sound when the car is moving. I tried accelerating hard and letting off the gas and i can hear it b ut i sounds more like a fluttering noise and alot quieter than when in park. I think with a manual transmission it would be easier to get the sound. I am wondering if when i get the reflash and the boost is increased in the ecu will it help or should i have the tuner look at it. He told me it will flutter a bit when i was going home but will that go away as the bov works it self in? or is that the best it will do?
My feeling is if it sounds great in park it should blow off nicely when the car is boosting when driving. i heard sound clips of other bov on a website and you can clearly hear it. the way it sounds on the website is the way it sounds when i am parked but i cant get that same result when moving.
How do u other 4eat guys do it?
thanks

yes it is
I know the 50/50 is better but i trust the subaru tuner shop i deal with and they said audis and the like have problems with 100% but they havent had ne problems running them on subaru wrx.
The 100% should be louder right than a recirculating?

The bov sounds differ from different engine loads. My stock bypass valve is very loud when I'm driving or spooling while in motion but never sounds off when I'm out of gear.

well for me I notice that I get the fluttering noise when the car is still cold... but once it gets warmed up and the bov is warm them it's loud as hell!
Make sure that you don't have the screw tighted to much other wise it will take more boost to make it go off... The fluttering noise you hear is the bov piston going up and down so it is doing it's job it just might be that the pressure is not great enough to give it that sound you're looking for.
Also you don't want to loosen the bov to much since this will cause problems for you later.
Hope this helps some... Also for the 4EAT it's not really necessary... BoOm only has the stock bypass valve and his is VERY LOUD! For me it's just a toy! it's great for when you want to get a chicks attention

thanks for the replys
Yeah it maybe a bunch of things why ie its rated for 10-25 psi of boost and correct me if i am wrong but the stock boost isnt at the minimum for the bov. So if i get a reflash and the boost is increased the more boost it gets will allow it to sound off better. Also because it is a 4eat i hear it when i let off the gas witha manual it may be easier to get it to blow off inbetween shifts. Yeah i agree it wasnt necessary but its another toy and i love the sound when it blows off in nuetral or park. I like the turbo xs becuase of the woosh noise than a higher pitch noise like some others.
I think if i get more boost from the reflash ie cobb reflash i think it will help. Also it may need to break in a little. The tuner shop but two washers in it. He told me not to mess with the washers unless i modded the car heavily. I heard it on a back road blow off and it sounded sick but its not loud enough. When i am on the highway and the turbo is fully spooled and i punch it and the tach jumps up before the computer shifts the car if ilet off the gas i will hear it more like a flutter than when i am revving the engine from under the hood or giving it some gas in park or nuetral.
what is the stock boost level on the wrx. Do you guys think if i am not at the minimum for the bov that may be the majority of my problems? Turbo xs makes one up to 15psi and the the type h is 10-25 so if the boost is at the low level or not even at 10 it may not be at full operation. Sorry to ramble on and thanks for the help.

how was booms bypass valve loud?
what mods was he running? More boost to get it to sound off? Because after my air intake silencer mod all i hear is the air rushing now from that and my exhaust. I couldnt hear the stock valve at all. But maybe i wasnt paying that close attention for it. Any way i like the aftermarket one once it does more of what i want.
Ps does ne one have the cobb reflash? IF so do u like it. MY tuner shop told me not to get it because they say cobb will set it for the temp and atmosphere in utah and it will run different in new england and at differnent time sof the year. The say get the utek and get differnt maps for different times of year etc. IF i get the stage 0 i should be ok with that.

you drive an automatic. the throttle body doesn't between gears because you don't lift off the throttle, so the pressure in the IC probably doesn't get high enough for your BOV to make noises.
