variable Boost Vs Revs
I've seen a couple of boost controllers where you can control the boost across the rev range...
Is this a good idea on Impreza ? maybe to protect Tranny or Pistons getting too much of a workout ?
What would be a good boost curve ? where would be best to add more or less boost through the rev range ?
thanks
Jon

The best place to add boost is near the top end as you are in a safer zone here, as you do not shift into gear hear and there is not as much load on the car at this point. This is usually a better place to add timing also, as the pistons are firing faster and faster and the spark still takes the same amount fo time to ignite the fuel and air, so start the explosion earlier.
Usually a boost curve should start low to mid level at mid RPM's where most of all driving is done and curves up to a flat point by about 1500 - 2000 RPM's before the rev limit. This will be easier on the tranny, engine and everything in the long run. Though near the rev limit you want to start pulling a little boost as this is the recommened limit of the stock engine.
Of course the drawback to this is the intial torque you lose by not have a flat line of boost which gets you up and going quicker but you will have to sacrifice your tranny, engine in the long run.
