is it hard to install and set up UTEC?

Not an expert, and like yourself I am considering going with a UTEC. Installation shouldn't be to hard, looks like it is pretty much plug and prey (play). They say it takes about 30 minutes for install.
From my understand (not experience) you can get it setup for your mods from the factory. This is probably the way to start. A dyno tune would probably get the most outa your setup. Here are a couple of sites that may shed some light on this subject for you.

I am currently considering the UTEC as my first mod. Seems like it gives pretty good performance for the money. I don't really want to void my warranty, and I figured if something happens I can always pull the UTEC out.
Anyone running a UTEC only? Please give details. After the UTEC I may do the uppipe, and eventually a turbo back exhaust.
Please post you experience with the UTEC so us noobs can gain some knowledge.

TurboXS makes the system.. Pete, their programmer in Australia is incredible. You can run the UTec as your first mod easily. The stage 1 map will work fine on a stock car. Please don't try to boost over 14 PSI on the stock exhaust system though. As for install... shouldn't take more than 30 minutes and its all very very very easy. Just plugging in a couple harness wires. Their instructions are very good.

the utec install was the easiest thing i did on my car so far...do u have any other mods on your car? i waited to get it until i had my intake, turbo back exhaust and uppipe before i put mine on, i think you will notice a lot bigger of a difference doing en exhaust system over a utec on a stock wrx, now i am running the "stage 4 utec" with hks downpipe, uppipe and catback, cold air intake, vf 30 turbo, sti injectors and a bigger fuel pump...i'm lovin my rex now...but my suggestion would be if your gonna drop a grand in to the car, do the exhayst first, you will notice a bigger difference once you get the utec then!!

the instructions have improved greatly since their last one
which was used as toilet paper for a pet turtle.
the install took me (with their previous crap instructions) about
1 hour. i did another guy's install taking my dandy time in
about 45min. This includes the time I needed to do the
ABC install as well in the engine room.
its a great unit.

The UTEC was very easy to instal after the programs were installed. After I had the utec installed I had my car strap to a four wheel dyno. Apparently the utec makes the rexs run very, very rich. I ended up taking the utec out and just got the ecu reflashed. The numbers spoke for themselves 28 awhp and 35 wtq over the utec on map 2.
