2-day real hardcore DIRT DRIVE and TSD Rally for the hard -and not so hard core
And I'm wondering -where are our Nor Cal entries?
Ben Bradley of "Ben's Rally page" fame is signed up, as is legendary writer and Rally driver Satch Carlson, we're just about 4 weeks away and I haven't seen ANY entries from this bunch-
Some of the finest scenery and by far the most fun roads in Northern california await you!
This probably is the last time that Golden West will be run as a mostly brisk gravel National Tour, so if you have ever had an interest in this sort of thing, this would be the one to hit!

Its now less than 4 weeks out, I was planning to do a final pre-check this weekend, but my registrar tells me we have all of 3 teams signed up, and from what I know of these people- none of them are Nor-Cal I-clubbers
I got one more via e-mail today, but right now I have twice as many CP crews signed up as I have entries, and putting on a 2 day rally under these circumstances just doesn't make much sense.
I will probably go ahead and finish writing it, but if I don't get a flurry of entries- (I'm thinking like 15 or more teams- REALLY soon) I'll have no choice but to pull the plug and put the whole thing in the can for another year- maybe another sanctioning body- maybe forever.

Pre-check this weekend was great, sweet roads, reasonable casts, but plenty of chance to get a little slideways, easy to follow instructions and over 200 miles of dirt and gravel.
I'm telling you guys, this is as much fun as you can have in a car -with your clothes on!
Matt I'm thinking you should compete this year, after all you worked last year!

what do I need to compete?
I can buy some stuff, I have a codriver, just need to know what is required and what it would cost me.

The entry fee is $120 ($10 off for SCCA members).
Just sent my registration in today. Really looking forward to it!
You'll need a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, hazard triangles, and ideally a full-sized spare tire.
In fact, I'm looking for a full-sized spare for my WRX.. anyone got a spare tire and wheel lying around (16")?

BTW, are there any similar off-road TSD rallys on the west coast this year? I missed the big dirt drive in June, but would love to put my mud flaps to good use.

The best in the west are the PCC events, of which Golden West is one of 4, unfortunately it is the closest one, but the others are well worth the trips up to Washington and BC;

We are also looking at the Sierras above Marysville and Yuba City as well as possibly in the Mednocino Forest for next year.
This years "Redwood Rendezvous" - a non-sanctioned run/work TSD and camping trip will probably be mostly in the Mendocino Forest in September this year.

Rich, bring the wife, bring the focus if the WRX is sick, probably save some gas too... make an outdoorsey vacation out of it- you'll only have to work 3 checkpoints on Saturday and one Sunday.
