Question Error code: 1133

My check engine light is staying on even after a reset.

Haven't found the definition of the code 1133. Anyone know?

Thanks

My '99 OBS with the EJ22 engine has started doing the same code, sticks around after a reset also. Did you ever figure this out?

Smile I'm still running into Engine check errors

I had three errors come at once.
One of them required an oxygen sensor to be changed ($250.00 - labor included (small TN town rate.).
Now the light will turn on and off periodically for the other two issues.

If your Check Engine light starts blinking in rapid succession; then you should pull over and turn off the engine immediately.

Aside from that event. The Check engine light comes on to let you know of an error that the onboard computer couldn't resolve.

Sounds like an O2 sensor needs to be replaced on your car. I'd get several opinions before spending.
Another mechanic diagnosis.
An auto parts store may double check the error code.
A Haynes or Chilton repair book may have the error defined; they can be found at a Auto parts store.

Hope this helps
I'm interested to know what you find out.

I saw that thread and read through a bunch of it at least. Ultimately, I think the general consensus is that the front O2 sensor is going or gone. I have a new one and as soon as I replace it, I'll know. I'm getting terrible gas mileage for now, so that seems to support that conclusion and others have reported similar results. Once person even had his unplugged for some reason and that was the reason for his CEL 1133.

Question 1133

What is the liklihood of an electrical problem frying an oxygen sensor?

So I got a new front O2 sensor. It has 3 wires, but the O2 sensor that is on the car is 4 wires. There's pictures I've seen of a 3-wire triangular plug for the front O2 sensor in the ScoobyMods.com post about changing the front O2 sensor. That's what I found online everywhere, but this 4-wire one is nowhere to be found.

I ended up bringing it to Midas to get them to replace it and they were as stumped as me, especially when they ordered out for it and a 3-wire one came back. Anyway, after lots of back and forth with their parts guy, the supplier said that there's a part with 4 wires called the Air/Fuel sensor and most of the code interpretations include A/F in the description, so I think that's promising. I can't find information about this anywhere though - no one seems to indicate that there are two possible devices that might plug into the front of the cat.

Perhaps someone here can offer some insight?

EDIT: Here's the ScoobyMods.com link, for those interested.

Found a cool site...

A friend of mine pointed me to OxygenSensors.com, which is where he went for some Civic ones he had trouble finding awhile back. They let you select 1999 Subaru Impreza and then make an engine selection between 2.2L Calif., 2.2L Non-Calif., and 2.5L.

I remember when I got an air filter, I had trouble finding the right size and had to get the California emissions variant (4" wider). So this site confirms it. The California emissions version has 4 wires on the front O2 sensor and the non-California emissions version has 3.

Anyway, I'm buying this and when I get it in, we'll see.

The one from OxygenSensors.com was a perfect fit. I replaced it last night, reset my CEL, and it stayed off.
