Keep in mind different years and versions dont aways fit. Male and female axles are flipped around in the 04 wrx's?- 05+? To be shure youll just need everything.

Trans, shifter linkage, axles, hubs, driveshaft, r180 rear diff, get rear brembos, and i think thats pretty much it. Get your clutch and flywheel combo too.

+1 if there is even a small chance you are going to mod the car.

I don't think the 08+ newer 5 spds are supposedly to be a lot stronger but a little... I have heard typically 350 whp is what they max out at but the wtq and how driven is the main factor as well

I think that's a good option for me to do now as I am going to push 330 hp max.
I don't need a ton of power, thinking more about how For the time being I just need a dd.
Eventually will sell and buy an sti. But for now. I just want a dd and a fun car for some great mountain driving, some fast roads, and a track day any once in a while.

Guys thanks for all the input!!! I have officially dropped the car off at fw for my 09 gear set. Thanks again. I appreciate it greatly, and learned a lot through this thread. I hope anyone looking for advice can read this and have a better understanding and make a good choice that fits their needs!

One more thing for anyone considering a 6MT swap: I've read that the 2004-2005 STi sometimes had synchro wear issues as they get up there in mileage, which Subaru improved or fixed for 2006+. (USDM models, no idea what the corresponding JDM models are.) So I'd definitely pay more for a 2006+ 6MT.

The 2004-2005 6MT holds power perfectly well, it's just that the synchros will wear our sooner from normal shifting, and you're starting with a used tranny with some miles on it.

On the flip side the tranny is already out of the car so you can probably get the synchros upgraded pretty easily/cheaply. If the 2004-2005 tranny is higher mileage I'd do that before installing it.

There is also the torque split difference (35:65 for 2004-2005 vs 41:59 for 2006+), the mechanical LSD difference (2006+ has some pure mechanical LSD functionality in addition to DCCD), and the newer ones (2007+ I think?) do not have a tranny fluid pump. This is to say nothing of gearing differences.

I'm *not* an expert and I've never done a swap. I'm just repeating things I've read in case anyone finds them useful.

09 wrx gear set.

Been driving it for a few weeks now. Shirts very smooth, I picked up a twm weight shift **** (m1 Abraham's 460g) so that probably helps haha. I haven't noticed much change from the 06 one...
It's cost effective if you can't do the sti swap yourself, it's also though to source everything. I like the trans a lot... I put faith into it praying it won't blow. I'm confident it won't though
Overall I like it!

What kind of dyno are you making 350? Gotta remember "400" on a dyno jet could be close to 325-350 on a mustang dyno. Just be easy on your car I'm sure you don't wanna replace that clutch or tranny again anytime soon
