Question Tranny Improvements for 2004 WRX???

Anyone know if the 5 speed manual in the 2004 WRX has been upgraded or improved in any way?

I'm looking at getting an STi, but was still considering getting the WRX and then cutomizing it myself until I saw all these posts about tranny problems. That's not one of the items I would have wanted to have to swap out. Even a recent Turbo magazine mentioned like 5 major tranny issues common to the 5 speed manual.
